Officers are being posted at the Main Street station during the morning and evening rush hours, after photos showing people making the illegal -- and dangerous -- transit were sent to the borough and NJ Transit, a spokesman for the latter told NJ.com.
Tommy Ryan, of Ramsey, was 27 when he died at the railroad crossing. His was the third pedestrian death there in the last decade, according to the Federal Railroad Administration, NJ.com reports.
In addition to risking injury, pedestrians can also face fines for crossing when the gates are down. Two people have been issued summonses in the past month, the NJ.com article noted. A NJ Transit spokesman said the effort is to educate the public.
